The Girl With The Big Blue Eyes
The girl with the big blue eyes still hopes. She hopes that one day more people will put down their phones, open a book and discover how much there is to learn.
The Girl With The Big Blue Eyes
Every fairytale starts with the words there once was.
So in this case there once was a girl with the big blue eyes.
The girl with the big blue eyes was thoughtful, highly sensitive, passionate and stubborn. She never liked following crowds. Even as a child she preferred asking questions instead of accepting what everyone else believed. She loved animals and always stood up for those who were weaker. The girl with the big blue eyes believed that character mattered more than popularity and that truth mattered more than convenience.
She moved often during her childhood and saw more of the world than many children her age. Different countries, different languages, different cultures and different ways of life became part of her education. She learned early that people could be kind, but she also learned that people could be cruel. Humanity often struggles to accept those who are different. Anyone who stands out becomes a target. Even a girl with the big blue eyes.
She came from a family that valued history, education and personal responsibility. Her parents taught her about the tragedies of the Second World War and the suffering of the Jewish people. They taught her that freedom is fragile and that prejudice can grow when good people remain silent. Those lessons stayed with her throughout her life.
The girl with the big blue eyes loved books. She spent countless hours reading. She read novels, biographies and historical accounts. She read about the Holocaust, about the creation of Israel and about the many wars that shaped the modern Middle East. She read the Bible, the Torah and the Quran because she wanted to understand different perspectives. She believed that understanding starts with learning.
As she grew older she developed a deep admiration for Israel. To her, Israel represented resilience. It was a nation built by people who had survived persecution and who refused to give up hope. The girl saw a country that faced enormous challenges and yet continued to innovate, build and defend itself.
The years passed and the world changed rapidly.
Social media became more influential than libraries. Short videos became more powerful than long books. Opinions spread faster than facts. Many people stopped reading deeply and started scrolling endlessly. Information became entertainment. Complex conflicts were reduced to simple slogans.
The girl with the big blue eyes watched this transformation with concern.
She noticed that conversations about Israel became increasingly emotional and increasingly polarized. Nuance disappeared. History was ignored. People repeated claims they had seen online without checking sources or studying the background. The girl with the big blue eyes believed that serious issues deserved serious study.
The girl with the big blue eyes often felt alone in her views. Many people she met could not understand why she remained supportive of Israel. Some assumed she was uninformed. Others assumed she was biased. Yet few asked how many books she had read or how many years she had spent studying history. Nobody believed that all her knowledge was factual and lived, despite the fact she had blue eyes.
The girl with the big blue eyes knew that Israel was frequently judged by standards that were not applied to others. She experienced that many people discussed Israel without understanding its history, its security concerns or the reality faced by its citizens.
As the years went by she also noticed a troubling trend. Hostility toward Jews seemed to become totally acceptable in places where other forms of prejudice were strongly condemned. Society became increasingly careful about language in many areas, yet hateful stereotypes about Jews frequently resurfaced disguised as political commentary. The girl with the big blue eyes found this deeply disturbing because history had taught her where such attitudes can lead.
The girl with the big blue eyes continued reading. She continued researching. She continued searching archives, documents and historical records. She believed that knowledge is the strongest defense against propaganda. She encouraged people to look beyond viral posts and emotional headlines. She encouraged them to read books, study history and examine original sources.
Most of all, the girl with the big blue eyes never lost hope.
She hoped that future generations would learn to think critically. She hoped they would judge people as individuals rather than as members of groups. She hoped they would understand the importance of truth, even when truth is complicated.
And I know this story well because I am still that girl with the big blue eyes.
The girl with the big blue eyes grew older. She became a mother and eventually a grandmother. Her hair changed, the years passed and the world continued to evolve. But the values remained the same. The girl with the big blue eyes still believes in learning before judging. She still believes in standing up for what is right. She still believes that history matters and she is always seeking for truth.
And the girl with the big blue eyes still hopes.
She hopes that one day more people will put down their phones, open a book and discover how much there is to learn.
She hopes that one day understanding will be stronger than slogans.
She hopes that one day truth will matter more than trends.
And until that day comes, the girl with the big blue eyes will keep telling her story.
Signed: The girl with the big blue eyes
