Selective Justice and Middle East Hypocrisy
The word corruption has become a political weapon, not against the worst offenders, but against Israel. No leader in the Middle East has been scrutinized, investigated, prosecuted, and publicly dissected like Benjamin Netanyahu. Not because Israel is uniquely corrupt, but because Israel is uniquely democratic.
And that fact is precisely what its enemies exploit.
For years, the global media has framed Netanyahu as the embodiment of moral failure, while surrounding him, literally and figuratively, are regimes built on bribery, theft, repression, and blood money. The contrast is not accidental. It is ideological.
Israel: A Democracy That Investigates Itself
Israel is the only country in the Middle East where:
A sitting prime minister can be indicted
Police investigate political leaders independently
Courts function without loyalty to the regime
Media attacks the government daily without fear
Netanyahu’s cases, whether one agrees with him or not, exist because Israel has rule of law. They are debated openly, appealed legally, and challenged publicly. No tanks roll into the streets. No judges disappear. No journalists are imprisoned.
Now compare that to Israel’s neighborhood.
The Corruption Everyone Ignores
Mahmoud Abbas (PA)
The Palestinian Authority is consistently ranked among the most corrupt political entities in the world. Abbas is in the 20th year of a four-year term, has canceled elections indefinitely, and controls a system where international aid flows into private accounts while Palestinians remain impoverished.
His sons became millionaires overnight. No investigations. No indictments. No media outrage.
Qatar
Qatar presents itself as a neutral mediator while financing Hamas, hosting its leaders in five-star hotels, and laundering influence through Western universities, think tanks, media outlets, and politicians. Billions flow through opaque foundations. Bribes are disguised as “donations.” Influence is purchased openly.
Yet Qatar is treated as a legitimate actor — while Israel is condemned for defending itself.
Turkey under Erdoğan
Erdoğan has:
Imprisoned judges
Purged the military
Silenced journalists
Transformed Turkey into a one-man kleptocracy
Massive corruption scandals involving construction contracts, family enrichment, and offshore accounts were buried by force. When evidence emerged, prosecutors were fired.
Still, Turkey lectures Israel on morality.
Iran’s Regime
Iran’s leaders steal from their own population while funding terror proxies across the region. Billions disappear into the IRGC and clerical elite while ordinary Iranians face poverty, executions, and repression.
No elections. No transparency. No accountability.
Yet Israel, a state with independent courts, is called “the corrupt one.”
Western Complicity and Convenient Blindness
This hypocrisy doesn’t stop in the Middle East.
Western leaders are eager to condemn Israel while shaking hands with dictators, accepting luxury gifts, jet planes, and “consulting fees” from the very regimes that destabilize the region.
The outrage is selective because Israel is held to a standard no one else is expected to meet...perfection.
If Israel were truly corrupt, there would be no trials. If Israel were truly authoritarian, Netanyahu would not be in court. If Israel were truly criminal, opposition media would not exist.
Israel’s so-called “scandals” are proof of strength, not decay.
Why Israel Is Targeted
Israel threatens the region not with power but with example.
A Jewish state that:
Thrives without oil
Builds innovation instead of dynasties
Investigates its leaders
Protects minorities
Defends itself unapologetically
That is intolerable to regimes built on fear, lies, and stolen wealth.
So the narrative is flipped. The corrupt accuse. The dictators moralize. The terrorists are rebranded as “resistance.” And Israel is placed permanently on trial.
Netanyahu as a Symbol, Not the Issue
This is no longer about Netanyahu alone. He has become a symbol of Israel’s refusal to bow, apologize, or self-destruct for international approval.
Whether history judges him harshly or kindly, one fact remains:
Only in Israel could such a leader face years of investigation without collapsing the state.
That is not corruption. That is democracy under pressure.
Final Thought
If the world truly cared about corruption, it would start where corruption reigns unchecked:
In Ramallah
In Doha
In Ankara
In Tehran
But it doesn’t because Israel is not the problem.
Israel is the mirror.
And those who attack her most viciously do so because they cannot stand what they see reflected back: a free society, imperfect yet accountable, surrounded by regimes terrified of transparency.
Israel doesn’t need lectures from kleptocrats. She needs allies who recognize truth when they see it.
And history will, as it always does, separate propaganda from reality.
