The Lie That Became a Truth and Why Millions Believe It

As a lifelong lover of Israel, a reader of history, and someone who has actually lived in the Middle East, I am always shocked,  though no longer surprised, by how confidently people repeat historical lies. I have spent years reading the Bible, the Torah, the Talmud, and yes, even the Quran. I visited museums in Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel when I lived there as a teenager. I have studied archaeological findings, ancient documents, historical maps, and the physical ruins of long-gone empires.

In all these sources, every single one of them, I never once found a sovereign nation called “Palestine” belonging to Arabs. Not in ancient texts, not in religious scripture, not in archaeological evidence, not in imperial records. Judaism is thousands of years older than Islam. The Jewish people built kingdoms, cities, and religious life on the land long before Arabs ever arrived from Arabia.

And yet, despite this mountain of verifiable history, the world is flooded with a lie:
that Israel is “occupying Palestine.”

The Messages I Received Today  A Perfect Example of the Problem

People who read my blogs at www.timetostandupforisrael.com often send reactions. Today’s message was a powerful demonstration of how misinformation turns into certainty.

Someone from Australia wrote:

In Australia all our WW1 memorials list Palestine as a country Australians fought and died in.

This is a classic misunderstanding. My response was simple and factual:

It was not a country. It was the Ottoman Empire.
The Romans renamed Judea to “Palestina” after crushing the Jewish revolt,  a deliberate political move to delegitimize the Jewish homeland. It was never a sovereign Arab state. Ever.
Jews come from Judea.
Arabs come from Arabia.
Muslims pray toward Mecca, Jews pray toward Jerusalem.

His answer?

You are just in denial that a native population was supplanted by European nationals who adhered to the Jewish religion.

This rewriting of history is not only factually wrong,  it is dangerous.

My reply was harsh but honest:

You are brainwashed. Start reading the Torah, the Bible, and the Quran. Read real history. Then come back and apologize.

If the situation weren’t so frightening, it would be laughable. But it is frightening. And sometimes, the atmosphere today gives me serious Nazi-era chills,  not because history repeats exactly, but because the psychological mechanisms are the same.

Why Millions Follow a Lie, Even Intelligent People

This phenomenon is not new. It’s not because humanity is rotten. It is because humanity is vulnerable.

1. People seek belonging, not truth

Most people don’t want facts. They want acceptance.

If everyone around them repeats a lie loudly enough, they join in,  not because they checked the evidence, but because the group makes them feel safe.

2. Authority bias

If someone with a title,  professor, journalist, or politician, says something confidently, people believe it.

Even smart people stop thinking critically when the “majority opinion” feels safer.

3. Repetition becomes “truth”

The brain mistakes familiarity for truth.
Repeat a lie a thousand times and people accept it.

This is the illusory truth effect, the basis of propaganda from ancient empires to modern TikTok.

4. Fear shuts down thinking

Fear makes people obey.
It happened in the 1930s and it happens now.

5. Simple stories beat complex realities

Propaganda wins because it offers comforting simplicity:

  • “Israel = bad”
  • “Palestinians = victims”
  • “Jews = colonizers”

A child can understand that narrative,  which is precisely why it spreads.

6. The Dunning–Kruger effect

People with minimal knowledge think they are experts.
They skim headlines, see a few maps, watch a viral video and suddenly believe they understand 3,000 years of history.

7. Echo chambers

Social media traps people in their own worldview.
Opposing facts are hidden, mocked, or censored.

8. Moral righteousness replaces facts

People want to feel good.
Supporting “Palestine” gives them a sense of moral heroism. Facts become irrelevant.

This Is Why Israel Is Hated,  Not Because It’s Wrong, but Because It’s Easy

Israel stands for history, complexity, responsibility, and truth.
The modern anti-Israel narrative stands for simplicity, emotion, and moral posturing.

One requires reading real history.
The other requires reading a hashtag.

That is why millions choose the lie.

The Real Danger Today

We live in a time when:

  • emotional content spreads faster than facts,
  • lies travel before the truth has time to open its laptop,
  • people prefer belonging over accuracy,
  • and propaganda can reach billions instantly.

Mass delusion doesn’t require violence anymore, just WiFi.

The Only Defense: Truth Without Fear

We must fight with every word, every article, every evidence-based argument to keep Jewish history alive and protected. Not for political gain,  but because erasing the past is always the first step toward justifying hatred.

Only truth can destroy the lies that fuel antisemitism.
Only truth can defend Israel.
And only truth can prevent history from repeating itself.
